Strategy chat now checks ideas with real backtests

Instead of only suggesting, the chat runs actual backtests to back its answers, and can launch a parameter sweep for you.

Why it was added

A chat that only suggests changes can sound convincing while being wrong. The Simulator's strategy chat now runs real backtests on the data you loaded before it recommends something, and can launch a parameter sweep for you.

How to use it

  1. In the Simulator, load a strategy and a data pull.
  2. Ask the chat a question, for example whether a filter helps or which values to try.
  3. It runs the backtests and answers with the numbers, the window and the parameters it used.
  4. Nothing is saved to your strategy until you apply a change.

When to use it

To test an idea quickly, or to explore a parameter range without setting up each run by hand.

Risks and limits

  • An answer is true for the data window and parameters it names, and nothing else. Read the scope before generalizing.
  • Tuning on one stretch of history inflates how good it looks there. Prefer the out-of-sample view and be sceptical of a single best result.
  • Past results don't predict future ones.
  • The chat only covers strategy building; it declines unrelated requests.
